Christopher Allen, 33, of Reed City, and Wesley Ann Conner, 21, of Leroy, have been ordered to stand trial in Wexford County’s 28th Circuit Court on several felony child abuse charges. The announcement was made by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

The charges stem from alleged incidents in 2023 involving severe physical abuse of a minor relative of Allen who was under two years old at the time. Allen faces one count of First-Degree Child Abuse, which carries a potential life sentence, and one count of Second-Degree Child Abuse, a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison. Conner is charged with one count each of Second-Degree Child Abuse and Third-Degree Child Abuse; the latter carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment.

At the time of their arraignment, Nessel stated: “No child should ever have to endure abuse, especially at the hands of adults who are expected to protect and care for them. My office remains committed to holding accountable those who inflict such harm on some of our most vulnerable.”

A pretrial date has not yet been scheduled.

It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The Department does not release booking photos.
