Mark Fischer, a 61-year-old resident of Wellston, was arraigned on December 5 in Lansing for allegedly failing to report or pay sales tax collected by his business, Fischer LPG, Inc., between 2019 and 2023. The charges were announced by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Both Fischer and his company face five counts each of Failure to File Tax Return, which are felonies carrying potential penalties of up to five years.
The case was referred to the Attorney General’s office by the Michigan Department of Treasury after an investigation into the company’s tax practices.
Attorney General Nessel stated, “Michiganders pay sales tax to support our schools and our local governments, and attempts to withhold that money undermine the public services we all rely on. My office will continue to work with the Michigan Department of Treasury to ensure those who violate our tax laws are held accountable.”
A probable cause conference for Fischer and his company is scheduled for December 12 before Judge Anthony Flores at the 54A District Court in Lansing.
