The State Bar of Michigan announced on Mar. 27 that nominating petitions for its 2026 elections are now available, with a submission window from April 1 to April 30.

The announcement is important as it outlines the process for electing key positions within the State Bar, including roles on the Judicial Tenure Commission, Representative Assembly, Board of Commissioners, and Young Lawyers Section Executive Council.

According to information published in the Michigan Bar Journal, this year’s June election will include a statewide vote for a non-judicial member of the Judicial Tenure Commission. Additionally, there will be elections for 81 members of the Representative Assembly across 41 judicial circuits, six members of the Board of Commissioners in four commissioner districts, and eleven members of the Young Lawyers Section Executive Council in three districts.

Candidates interested in running must submit their nominating petitions between April 1 and April 30 by scanning and emailing them to csharlow@michbar.org. Physical mail or fax submissions will not be accepted. The State Bar has also provided an option to use an electronic confirmation of nomination as a substitute for physical signatures. The required format includes support statements with relevant district or circuit details and attorney information.

Online voting is scheduled to begin on May 22 and conclude by June 15. Ballots will be sent via email to active attorneys using their contact information on file with the State Bar. Members are encouraged to check or update their contact details through michbar.org/MemberArea.

For further questions regarding nominations or voting procedures, individuals can reach out directly to Amy Owens at aowens@michbar.org or Carrie Sharlow at csharlow@michbar.org.
