A former employee has filed a lawsuit against a major financial corporation, alleging workplace discrimination and harassment. Jane Doe, the plaintiff, initiated the legal proceedings on December 11, 2025, in Wayne County Circuit Court against Ally Financial, Inc. The case was subsequently moved to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan by the defendant on December 31, 2025.

Jane Doe claims that during her tenure with Ally Financial Services as a Manager of Business Line in the Invest Department from June 1, 2021, she faced gender bias and a hostile work environment. According to Doe’s complaint, despite being an exemplary employee without any disciplinary actions and receiving regular salary increases and bonuses until her pregnancy became known to her employer in 2025, she experienced discriminatory treatment. She alleges that after announcing her pregnancy in late 2024, she was subjected to differential treatment compared to her male colleagues. “Defendant offered tools to males and non-pregnant co-workers allowing them to succeed,” states Doe in her complaint.

The situation escalated when Lathan Hunter became Doe’s direct manager in early summer of 2024. She describes Mr. Hunter’s actions as obstructive and claims he shared part of her private information with his wife. Despite reporting these issues to Human Resources and higher management like Heather Waldrup, Doe alleges no effective action was taken. Her concerns were dismissed or ignored while Mr. Hunter’s behavior allegedly worsened.

Doe’s legal filing details how her employment conditions deteriorated further after notifying Ally Financial of her pregnancy complications in January 2025. Shortly thereafter, she was informed that her role would be eliminated effective March 7, 2025—a decision she argues was pretextual since no other team members were laid off despite having less experience than her.

The lawsuit accuses Ally Financial of violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act (ELCRA) by fostering a discriminatory environment based on sex/gender and pregnancy status. Additionally, Doe claims retaliation following her complaints about discrimination.

Jane Doe seeks judgment exceeding $75,000 for each count cited in the lawsuit along with costs for attorney fees and other relief deemed appropriate by the court. The plaintiff is represented by Scott P. Batey from Batey Law Firm PLLC while Maurice G. Jenkins and Peter J. Lochbiler from Jackson Lewis P.C represent Ally Financial Inc.

The case is presided over by Honorable Judge Susan L. Hubbard under Case ID: 25-019639-CD.
