A shocking incident involving a minor and law enforcement has come to light, prompting legal action in Michigan. A complaint was filed by L.D., through his next friend Nicolas Olsson, in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan on December 1, 2025, against Mecosta County and deputies Jason Losinski and S. Martin. The lawsuit alleges that these officers violated the constitutional rights of L.D., a minor, through excessive force and false arrest.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on January 29, 2024, when L.D., a twelve-year-old student at Chippewa Hills Intermediate School in Remus, Michigan, was reportedly subjected to excessive force by Deputy Jason Losinski. According to the complaint, L.D., who suffers from attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), decided to take a nap under a classroom table due to fatigue. It is alleged that Deputy Losinski entered the classroom and without any verbal communication or attempt to de-escalate the situation, violently pulled L.D.’s leg and arm behind his back causing immediate pain. Despite L.D.’s cries of pain and lack of any aggressive behavior towards the officer, Losinski continued to apply force as he escorted him to the principal’s office.

The plaintiff claims that this conduct constituted a violation of L.D.’s Fourth Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution which protects individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures. Furthermore, it is alleged that both Deputies Losinski and Martin brought unfounded criminal charges against L.D. for resisting arrest and disturbing peace without probable cause. These charges were later dismissed but not before causing significant distress and injury to L.D.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages exceeding $75,000 for each count of excessive force, false arrest, assault and battery among others against the defendants. The plaintiff argues that Mecosta County failed in its duty by not adequately training or supervising its law enforcement officers leading to this violation of rights.

Representing L.D., attorneys Christopher J. Trainor, Shawn C. Cabot, and Krystina R. Doss from Christopher Trainor & Associates have demanded a jury trial for this case identified as Case No: 1:25-cv-01606 before an honorable judge yet unnamed.
