Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has announced a new consumer protection campaign from the Department of Attorney General’s social media account, MI Consumer Protection (@MIConsumerWatch). The initiative draws inspiration from the ABC television series “Abbott Elementary” and aims to help Michigan residents recognize and avoid common scams.

“Consumer protection is something we all have to keep learning about,” said Nessel. “Scams are constantly evolving, and this campaign delivers important information in an engaging, familiar way to help Michiganders stay a step ahead of fraudsters.”

The campaign, which runs through November 28, will include posts, videos, and alerts designed to inform residents about scam tactics. Topics will include consumer laws, artificial intelligence scams, skimming and shimming schemes at payment terminals, fake college websites, ransomware threats, and tips for safer online shopping.

Michiganders can access the campaign by following @MIConsumerWatch on Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn. More details about the Michigan Consumer Protection Team are available on their website at mi.gov/consumerprotection.
