Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has issued a notice of intended action to Recollections, Inc., a company based in Michigan that designs and customizes historically themed clothing. The notice comes after more than 50 consumer complaints were reviewed by the Department of Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Team and the Better Business Bureau.

According to the Attorney General’s office, consumers reported issues such as not receiving their online orders or failing to obtain refunds for unfilled orders. Examples include a customer who ordered Victorian-era clothing in February 2025 for $229 and Edwardian-era clothing in March 2025 for $124.80, neither of which were delivered due to back orders and no refund was issued. Another customer reported ordering two skirts totaling $188.68 in November 2024 but never received the items or a refund. A third complaint involved an order placed in October 2024 for a dress that was not delivered, with no refund provided despite assurances from the company.

Attorney General Nessel stated, “Online shoppers deserve timely deliveries and quick refunds when a company cannot fulfill an order. When buying anything online, remember to take steps to protect yourself and only shop at businesses you trust. My office will continue to act when companies fail to uphold their obligations to consumers.”

The notice alleges that most complaints follow similar patterns of unfilled orders and unprocessed refunds. Recollections, Inc. has until December 22, 2025, to confer with the Department’s Consumer Protection Team about an assurance agreement to address these concerns.

Nessel also reiterated her office’s consumer alert on online shopping safety. She advised consumers to verify physical locations and customer service phone numbers before purchasing from unfamiliar retailers, conduct image searches on products and seller images, use credit cards for additional purchase protections, and safeguard personal information by avoiding sharing sensitive details via text or email.

Consumers seeking assistance or wishing to file a complaint can contact the Consumer Protection Team by mail at P.O. Box 30213, Lansing, MI 48909; by phone at 517-335-7599 or toll-free at 877-765-8388; by fax at 517-241-3771; or through the online complaint form.
