In a significant legal development, Michael Griffin has filed a civil rights lawsuit against multiple parties, including the City of Flint, Genesee County, and several medical professionals. The case stems from Griffin’s wrongful conviction in 2010 for the alleged murder of his seven-month-old daughter, Naviah. Griffin claims that police officers, doctors, and forensic officials conspired to fabricate evidence leading to his conviction. He spent fourteen years in prison before being exonerated in 2023 with the help of the Michigan Innocence Clinic and Mike Morse Law Firm.
The lawsuit alleges violations of Griffin’s Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights due to unlawful arrest, malicious prosecution, wrongful conviction, and false imprisonment based on coerced confessions and falsified medical reports. The complaint highlights systemic misconduct by law enforcement and medical personnel who allegedly manipulated evidence to secure a conviction.
Griffin seeks compensation for his lost years of liberty and emotional distress while aiming to hold accountable those responsible for what he describes as one of Michigan’s most grievous miscarriages of justice.
