Damon Bentley, a 27-year-old Detroit resident, was ordered on April 7 to stand trial in Wayne County’s 3rd Circuit Court for charges related to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old Westland man, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Bentley faces one count each of first-degree murder, felony firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon after being charged in May 2025.
The case centers on an incident that took place on May 4, 2025, when Bentley allegedly shot and killed the victim outside the Grand Lofts apartment complex in Southwest Detroit. The next court appearance for Bentley is scheduled for April 14 at 9 a.m.
Attorney General Nessel said, “I am relieved that this case will now move forward to trial, where my office will continue to pursue justice for this young man. A senseless act of violence tragically stole his future, and we remain committed to ensuring that those who commit such heinous acts are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
