Markiese King, a 31-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, faces a six-count indictment related to multiple robberies and an escape from custody. The charges include three counts of interference with commerce by robbery, two counts of using and carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of prisoner escape.

The indictment alleges that on May 20, 2025, King robbed a Dollar General store in Detroit. During the incident, he reportedly brandished a firearm and demanded money from employees. Three days later, on May 23, King is accused of robbing an Advance Auto Parts store in Warren, Michigan under similar circumstances.

In between these incidents, King allegedly left the Cherry Health Residential Reentry Center without permission while in custody for a previous conviction. Following his escape, he is accused of robbing an AutoZone store in Highland Park on May 28 while again wielding a pistol at employees.

A collaborative effort among local law enforcement agencies led to King’s arrest on May 30. The Detroit Police Department worked alongside the Warren Police Department, Highland Park Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force and Detroit Violent Crime Task Force as well as the U.S. Marshal’s Service to identify and locate him swiftly.

United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. emphasized that “an indictment is only a formal charging document and is not evidence of guilt.” He stated that it will be the government’s responsibility to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt during trial proceedings.

Assistant United States Attorney Micah Wallace will prosecute this case.
