Chief Judge Daniel S. Opperman has been reappointed as Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan, according to an announcement on April 22.

The reappointment is significant as it ensures continuity in the leadership of the bankruptcy court for the region. Stability at the head of such a court can impact ongoing and future cases, as well as administrative operations.

The decision was made pursuant to Administrative Order 26-AO-008, which was issued by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on March 5, 2026. According to this order, Opperman’s new term will begin on April 25, 2026 and conclude on January 7, 2027.
