In a recent decision by the Michigan Court of Appeals, the jury trial judgment in favor of Chase J. Lapasinskas against Dynamic Technology Solutions, Inc., and Dynamic Computer Corporation was upheld in part. The case revolved around Lapasinskas’ claim of retaliatory discharge under the Whistleblowers’ Protection Act (WPA) after he reported safety violations to MIOSHA. The court affirmed that there was sufficient evidence to support Lapasinskas’ claims that his termination was retaliatory following his whistleblower activities. However, the court vacated part of the economic damages awarded by the jury, reducing it from $50,000 to $25,000, while maintaining the $50,000 award for noneconomic damages.
