Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has responded to a recent public comment forum held by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) regarding DTE’s application for approval of two special contracts related to a proposed 1.4-gigawatt data center in Saline Township.
Nessel expressed appreciation for residents who participated in the forum, stating, “I’d like to thank every resident who took the time from their evening to watch and participate in MPSC’s public comment forum. While the Commission cannot use tonight’s public comments as a basis for approving or denying DTE’s special contracts, they can consider the public sentiment and the significance of the decision before them as they determine whether to grant a contested case hearing.”
She also highlighted that there is significant concern among Michigan residents about the process. “It is overwhelmingly clear from both the comments shared tonight and the majority of thenearly 5,000 public comments submitted online that Michigan’s residents share in our concerns and demand transparency. I again urge the MPSC to listen to the people of this State, to whom they should feel dutybound to represent and defend, to do the right thing and deny DTE’s request to approve these special contracts without a full, contested hearing.”
The MPSC hosted this forum as part of its review process for DTE’s ex parte application concerning energy supply agreements for a large-scale data center project.
