Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has appointed Kenneth L. O’Deen as the new Eaton County Public Administrator.

“Ken has long been a dedicated member of the Eaton County community, and I am sure he will bring that same commitment to his role as Eaton County Public Administrator,” said Nessel. “His experience and knowledge will serve residents well.”

County public administrators are responsible for managing estates of individuals who die without a will or known heirs. Their duties include determining, collecting, liquidating, and distributing assets from these estates. Attorneys in this position often continue their private legal practices alongside their responsibilities as public administrators.

State Public Administrator Randi M. Merchant commented on the appointment: “I look forward to working with County Public Administrator O’Deen. I have every confidence that Ken will serve as an outstanding addition to the roster of talented and passionate attorneys that serve as county public administrators across the state.”

Kenneth L. O’Deen is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Northwest along with a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley School of Law. He has practiced law in Eaton County for over 25 years. His previous roles include serving as Eaton County Public Guardian from 2006 to 2020, president of the Eaton County Bar Association, board member for Legal Services of South Central Michigan, and supporter of the Charlotte Jaycees.

O’Deen was sworn in on November 5, 2025.
